Computer

The computer lab gives fourth and fifth-grade students the opportunity to acquire the technological tools they will need to be successful in later scholastic years and throughout their professional lives. The children practice their keyboarding skills, learn how to perform online research, and are presented with the basics of online security and privacy, all in a safe and supervised environment. The students also help publish a classroom blog, keeping the school community up to date on all of their academic adventures.

Students deliberately are not introduced to computing in the earlier elementary years at Free Union when attention to a screen might inhibit much of the foundational growth opportunity that is special about Free Union: unbridled thinking and creativity, freedom of movement in and out of the classroom, extensive person-to-person connecting and problem solving, and the ability to hold one's focus that naturally evolves in the social milieu, unimpeded by rapid mouse clicking and topic switching.
